ABOUT US
Famram (FAM – Family & RAM – Ramjawan) Foundation, is a self-funded, non-profit organisation founded by Shamila Ramjawan and her two children, Hershin Ramjawan and Daksha Ramjawan. The organisation strives to empower, uplift, and provide Corporate Social Investment (CSI) solutions to enhance socio-economic development in the deeply impoverished areas in South Africa and beyond. This family’s philanthropic interests lie in changing lives and making a sustainable difference and an impact, regardless of how big or small the gesture is. It’s a win win win to put smiles on faces.
Having worked with communities for over a decade, Shamila realised there was a dire need to research the menstrual cup as a sustainable solution for menstruation because girls in deep rural areas miss school for up to 5 days a month. She researched menstrual cups for about 2 years and since they have been around since the 1930s, felt it was time to create her own brand and introduce it to the market. Early in 2016, she launched the PrincessD Menstrual Cup, named after her daughter, Daksha whom she used to call PrincessD from an early age. At first, her focus was on rural and impoverished areas but after launching the product, she found that its’ an essential product for girls and women everywhere because it is cost-effective, eco-friendly, and hygienic.
